27th
Annual ACT BMW MCC Rally - 18 and 19 October
2008:
This
year's Kosciuszko Rally will again be held
at the Geehi Hut camping area on the Alpine
Way over the weekend of Sat 18 and Sun 19
October (with some riders heading there
on Friday 17 October leaving about 10am).
It
can be accessed via Thredbo or Khancoban
on all bitumen roads, which are amongst
the best riding roads in Australia. There
are a number of different routes that can
be taken, for example via Jindabyne and
Thredbo, or via Adaminaby, Kiandra and Cabramurra
or from the south via Corryong and Khancoban.
(The dirt section between Thredbo and Geehi,
shown on the hand-drawn
map is no longer dirt.)
Tyrells
Hut and 'Carport' (see pictures below) will
be available for social activities but you
are required to camp outside, so bring your
own tent. The Geehi Hut shown in the photographs
was rebuilt in 2004 after being destroyed
in the 2003 fires - officially the NPWS
say that you cannot stay in it, but many
do so. The ACT BMW club will have a supply
firewood for camp fires at the site. There
are toilets, garbage bins and drinkable
water at the site.
This
year all meals are self-catered, meaning
you must bring your own food and cooking
gear for lunch, dinner and breakfast,
or make your way back to Khancoban for
dinner at the pub.
The
fee is $15 per head (adult) for the rally
which covers the enamelled badge with the
residual going to our club charity (Marymead).
Here
is a PRINTED
COLOUR MAP and HAND
DRAWN MAP of the site and how to get
there.
The Awards will be held on the SATURDAY
night at the hut and are of the usual
high standard that we have all come to
expect from Rocket Ron.
If
you wish to make further enquiries, please
contact the
Rides Co-ordinator.
See below for some photos of the Rally
site before the fires.
